HEC Liège Campus

HEC Liège's expanded campus, covering an area of 1.6 hectares in the heart of Liège, reflects the school's evolution, its vision of the future, its openness to the world, its reputation for leadership and innovation in teaching and research, and its role as a player in the service of the region.

The campus features several key elements:

  • The original HEC building (N1a)
  • A heritage building from the 17th century (N1b)
  • A brand-new building designed with sustainable and cutting-edge digital technologies (N1d)
  • The acquisition and renovation of neighboring buildings, including the Sainte-Julienne School located on Rue Saint Gilles, adjacent to the current HEC site (N3)
  • Internal green spaces

This campus centralizes all activities and gathers all collaborators in one place, with work and learning spaces designed in line with New Ways of Working (NWOW) and New Ways of Learning (NWOL).

Strong Connection between the University and the City

The five terraced floors are thoughtfully designed to integrate various elements of the urban context seamlessly and convey a dynamic impression. Architects have emphasized transparency and permeability between the street and the campus interior, particularly with the existing 17th-century heritage building and the internal green spaces, creating a strong link between the city and the university. This gives HEC Liège a decidedly innovative presence. Classrooms with large glass facades on the north side (street side) allow passersby to see students working in groups, highlighting the school's mission. Located in the heart of a vibrant and rich environment, the project contributes to the urban and economic development of central Liège. It enhances the school's impact on its surroundings and its contribution to regional development, as recently highlighted by the European BSIS (Business School Impact System) study measuring HEC Liège's regional footprint.

A state-of-the-art building

Our building offers flexible spatial and temporal configurations to promote new forms of work and teaching organization. Student well-being, job satisfaction, and autonomy are central concerns. The infrastructure and its organization have been considered through this lens, in connection with digital and technological advancements and their ability to foster the emergence of a new corporate culture.

"A large space for socializing on the south façade allows for both movement and provides students and professors with workspaces along their paths. This area is designed to be a lively and generous place, made of meetings and exchanges, which are the common thread of the project" explain the architects from Atelier 229.

  • Brainstorming spaces: open areas for discussion and collaborative work, and quieter collaborative spaces to minimize noise;
  • Specific or multifunctional activity zones;
  • "Bubbles": quiet, studious alcoves for calm and tranquility;
  • Large classrooms that can be divided into multiple spaces and small rooms that can be combined into one;
  • Coffee corners on each floor;
  • An open lounge area leading to a large wooden terrace offering panoramic views of the city;
  • A wellness room with self-massaging chairs, meditation and yoga spaces.

A Building committed to Sustainable Development

Sustainability is designed through a holistic approach based on the Breeam® method (British Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method), the most internationally used method for assessing the environmental performance of buildings. This approach integrates all aspects of sustainable construction and optimizes energy and environmental performance, covering location, mobility management, accessibility for everyone, efficient use of energy and water, responsible material use, maximum flexibility, and anticipation of minimal maintenance.

  • Building orientation allows for simple and effective solar control;
  • Use of raw and healthy materials;
  • Radiant heating, air quality probes to limit electricity consumption, rainwater harvesting;
  • A bike parking area with more than 50 spaces.
